UPDATE: The deceased driver is identified as Terry Lee Thompson, 54, of Laurel.
Howard County police are investigating a fatal collision involving four vehicles in Laurel last night.
At approximately 9:44 p.m. February 6, a 1995 Chevy 1500 was traveling northbound on Route 1 just north of Country Meadows Lane when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the median and struck a 2007 Pontiac Solstice that was traveling southbound. The Pontiac then struck a 2022 Hyundai Accent, and debris from the collision struck a 2022 Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Pontiac, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of the other involved drivers were transported to area hospitals.
Route 1 was closed in both directions between Whiskey Bottom Road and Maier Road for approximately 4 hours.
The investigation is ongoing.
