The Board provides impartial oversight of the care and services provided for individuals under public guardianship. The Board makes a recommendation to the court as to whether the public guardianship should be continued, modified, or terminated.
Board Members
There are 11 members of the Board: One representative of the Department of Social Services, one representative of the Commission on Aging, two physicians; including one psychiatrist from a local health department, one lawyer, one nurse, two lay persons, one representative from a local non-profit Social Services organization, one professional in the field of disabilities, and one person with a physical disability. Members are appointed to three year terms by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. For a current list of members, please contact the Administrator.
Meeting Schedule
The Board meets quarterly the first Thursday of February, May, August, and November at 9:00 a.m. The meetings are held at the Howard County Department of Social Services, 7121 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia, Maryland 21046. Meetings are closed to the public because the records and information upon which the Board relies includes information about the provision of social services. Social services records are confidential and prohibited from disclosure pursuant to Md. Code Ann., Human Services § 1-201.
