ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Environmental Services has announced nomination forms are now available for its annual “Business Recycling and Waste Reduction” and “Green Community Leadership” awards. Deadline for nominations is 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 16th.

Recognizing businesses who earn these awards builds upon the progress we have made over the last five years to be the national model on energy independence and environmental protection, including planting more than 67,000 trees during the last five years, expanding our food scrap program to nearly 68% of residents, becoming the first county in the nation to receive a LEED Platinum Certification under the current version, signing the largest solar Power Purchase Agreement in Maryland, and preserving more than 23,000 acres of farmland. Through their actions, dedication and support of our goal to create a clean and energy independent environment, these groups are showing us all that meaningful change can come from all around us.
