ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Office of Transportation will be holding a Transportation Open House on Tuesday, January 30th, to discuss the planning, design, operations and maintenance of the County's transportation systems. Set to take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kenneth S. Ulman Innovation Hub at 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia, the event will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about the multitude of transportation options, modes, agencies and upcoming projects in Howard County. 

During the last five years, we have invested record funding into Complete Streets, multimodal transportation projects, and public transportation options for our community. Together, we are committed to growing the network of transportation options for our community, promoting better connections, population health, and active transportation throughout the county.

Representatives from the Howard County Office of Transportation, Departments of Public Works and Recreation & Parks, Howard County Police Department, Howard County Public School System, Maryland Department of Transportation, Central Maryland Regional Transportation Agency (RTA), Baltimore Metropolitan Council, Montgomery Transit, and more will be on hand to discuss transportation projects, programs and resources as well as answer questions from the public.  

The new annual event will incorporate the previously held Active Transportation and Transportation Priorities Open Houses, as well as additional topic areas including transportation safety, Complete Streets, transit and regional planning, roadway maintenance, and operations. This Open House will also provide attendees with the opportunity to comment on the County's overall transportation priorities and approaches to solving common transportation challenges, as well as specific projects, including the extension of Montgomery County's Bus Rapid Transit service, Flash, from Burtonsville to Downtown Columbia.
 
Additionally, the Department of Public Works (DPW) will highlight information on projects including: 

  • Whiskey Bottom Road/US 1 Intersection Improvements;
  • Elkridge Main Street Sidewalk;
  • US 40 Sidewalk (west of Rogers Avenue);
  • Snowden River Parkway Sidewalk (MD 108 to Tamar Drive); 
  • Northfield Road Sidewalk Phases 2,4 (Southfield Road to Columbia Road);
  • Deep Run Community Pathway (Deep Run Parkway to Mayfield Woods Middle School);
  • Ilchester Road Sidewalk (Beechwood Road to Ilchester Point Court);
  • Old Annapolis Road Sidewalk (Font Hill Drive to Old Willow Way);
  • Elkridge Main Street CSX Pedestrian Underpass
  • Frederick Road Sidewalk (Howard County Library System Miller branch to Underoak Drive); 
  • 6th Street North Sidewalk (Meredith Avenue to Decatur Road); 
  • Old Montgomery Road Sidewalk (MD 108 to Brightfield Road); 
  • Whiskey Bottom Road Sidewalk Segment B (Harmony Lane to All Saints Road); 
  • US 1 Sidewalk (Laurel Park Entrance to North Laurel Road);
  • Mission Road Sidewalk (Concord Drive to Guilford Road);
  • Guilford Road Bicycle & Pedestrian Improvements – Phase III;
  • Patuxent Branch Trail Improvements; 
  • South Entrance Trail; and
  • Clarksville Streetscape and MD 32 Alternative Bike Route Pinch Point 6
